2 • BENNETT BANNER • NOVEMBER 19, 1993 The opinions expressed in this column are the author’s and do not necessarily represent the staff of the Banner. Editorial Do you know where your yearbook is? During the past three years at Bennett College I have received only one yearbook, instead of the three I am supposed to receive. This leads me to believe that I’m being taken advantage of because $60 of my tuition and fees pays for a yearbook each year that I attend school. There are about 600 students enrolled this year at Bennett. That means that we will pay $36,000 this academic year for a yearbook that we probably won't receive. Should we pay for things that we don’t receive? Where is the money going since it is obvi ously not going to producing a yearbook? I offer a solution that is both reasonable and practical. Instead of offering useless coiu*ses such as "Career and Life Planning," the College should implement a yearbook lab course. Such a course would allow students to earn credit for producing a yearbook. In addition, the money should be used to provide an office for desktop publishing and a photo lab specifically dedicated to yearbook production. Dr. Tiajuana Mosby, Dr. Daphne Thomas, Dr Gloria Scott and Dr. Alston. You were wrong. You were not just wrong about who was responsible in making the decision that SGA president Pamela McCorvey be rein stated, you were also wrong My sympathy goes out to you Miss WilHams. You have ignorantly questioned McCorvey’s commitment to God, her character as a posi tive black woman and have labeled her a threat to oiur Bennett sisters. Referring to a com ment in your letter, “We are all women at Bennett Col lege and it is time we started acting like it,” Get the facts, not the rumors, whispers or bathroom stall conversa tions. Last month, SGA is sued a Student’s Right to Know pamphlet which pri vate institutions were ex cused from adheriag to un til last year. The pamphlet outhnes several topics in cluding the use and distri bution of illegal substances on campus. On our campus there have been no previous cases. That should have you questioning, if anything, why McCorvey was sus pended at all. The decision to rein state McCorvey and one other Bennett student was not left up to the adminis trators you so gracefully advised in your letter. The decision was first reviewed by Dr. Mosby. Thereafter, it was sent to the judiciary committee, which included: five faculty members and three students. All were randomly selected. They based their decision on evi dence given in statements by witnesses selected by each, the accused and ac cuser. The decision was a result of the due process of the College; it had nothing to do with “who she is.” Instead of making a mockery of Bennett’s screen ing process for admission, perhaps you should research more on the issues at hand.
