MARCH 29, 1994 • BENNETT BANNER • 7 Two new faces added to Social Sciences By Broolte Walker Banner Reporter Two new faces have been added the faculty this semester: Dr. Elizabeth Denny and Dr. Marylin Kannel. Dr. Denny ,who spe cializes in clinical psychology, of Learning and Social Sci ence Statistics is a native of Chapel HiU, last taught at UNCG. “I enjoy teaching”, she said. “Teaching and re search go hand in hand.” Denny said what she Kkes most about teaching at Bennett is the focus regard ing women in the aspect of science. Denny said that she Ukes smaller classes at Bennett rather than the ones at UNCG where sometimes there are as many as 200 students in a class. “It makes it possible for more class discussion about ethical and moral issues which are important for hb- eral education.” Dr. Karmel ,a part-time instructor and a mother of three children, said that she decided she wanted more out of life. “As a woman, I wanted more than just marriage and children,” she said. “I had a desire to find out who I was and to contribute something Karmel is also a licensed psychotherapist at Family and Children’s Services in Greensboro. Karmel found out about Bennett last simuner when she worked with Dr. Alston, vice president for Academic Affairs during a three-week campus project teaching middle school students about opera. “Bennett has a very nice feeling,” she said. “I’m impressed with the stu dents’ consideration, polite ness, and interest.” Spring Honors Convocation honorees More than 60 stu dents were fionorect for aca demic achievements at tiie Honors Convocation 24.
