Photo by Gene Keenum Belle bats ready for action Tahja McVay Banner Sports Reporter The Bennett softball team is back and ready to swing into ac tion with 12freshwomen and three returning players from last year. Practices began on Jan. 23. Despite the 2-14 record last year, Coach Herb Jackson, who is also Director of Student Activi ties, has the same objectives for the team as last year. “The goals are the same,” Jackson said. “I want us to be the best possible team we can be. If we are conditioned well enough we can win a lot more games.” The lack of experienced play ers does not seem to bother Jack son. “A lot of seniors are trying to graduate, but this team is more talented than last year’s,” Jack son said. Her name is Annastasiah Mhaka. A native of Zimbabwe, Mhaka is the newest addition to the Bennett basketball team. Mhaka is the 5-foot-5 shoot ing guard that has added depth to t^e Belle squad. “Being one of tlie new players is okay,” Mhaka said. “I jusi have to adjust to the plays. “ The switch (rom my old team mates to my new teammates has taken a lot getting use to,” she added. Choosing Bennett College was not difficult for her. Someone mentioned Bennett and I didn’t look any further,” Mhaka said.
