The Bennett softball team were
battered up by visiting Fayetteville
State University. The Belles lost
15-2, 9-0 in their season opener
double header.
The Belles received outstand
ing perfomances from freshwomen
Carla Ingram, pitcher, Christina
Savoy, catcher, and Tanya
Aughtry, third base.
Unfortunately, the inexperi
enced Bennett team was unable
to catch up with FSU.
Coach Herb Jackson said, “As
we get a little more game experi
ence, we’ 11 be more competitive.
We did pretty good for the first
time.”
Bennett’s team is composed
of 10 freshwomen. The only
senior and team leader is Shena
Sheffield.
‘We’re a very young team.
But they’re all athletically in
clined.”
The number underclasswomen
has its advantages and disad
vantages. The team will obvi
ously lack experience, butit will
also have tfemendous room for
improvement.
The Belles will take on
Randolph-Macon College
March 20 at Noco Park.

Where’s the coach?
Bennett College has been
without a track coach since the
departure of Coach Mark
Adams.
“Track has been washed out
since he left”, said Kera Green,
a junior. Nursing major, from
Philadelphia.
The members of the team
were not given an explanation
as of why they don’t have a
track coach.
“They don’t care, said
Judyann Fletcher, ajunior, Spe
cial Education major, from Ber
muda.
“They told me at the last
minute I couldn’t go to national
competition and it hurt.”
However, the track team
thought there was hope after
Bennett student Marsha
Hawkins attempted to take over
the team. She was side tracked
due to an internship outof town.
“Marsha tried to pave our way
back into mainstream but when
she left everything faded away”.
Green said.
Effort to find a coach is still in
process even though indoor track
is over and outdoor U"ack is now
going on.
“We’re stilling searching for
a coach we are not just going to
hire anybody, said Athletic Di
rector, Leon McDougle.
“We want to make sure the
person can work within our set
ting our female environment.”
