6 • BENNETT BANNER • MAY 10, 1996 SPORTS Belleswimnners being organized Tahia McVav Banner Sports Editor The Athletic Department is tak ing in water. For the first time in the herstory of Bennett a competitive swim team is being organized. Carl Bibbs, who is the assistant athletic director and head track coach, will be in charge of the new swim team. Bibbs said that the swim team was not his idea entirely. “ It was suggested before I came here...,” Bibbs said, who came to Bennett last fall. Bibbs plans to prepare swim team members by offering life guard training classes. He said that he hopes to encourage those students to become members of the swim team. So far six Belles have shown interest The team will start practicing during sometime next year. Bibbs said that he will con tinue looking for swimmers who exhibit endurance, speed, and ability. Although the College has never had a competitive swim team, about 10 years ago there was a group of syncronized swimmers that performed once or twice a year. Chicago Bulls on their way to another championship Sports Commentary The Chicago Bulls are trying to earn a ring for their fourth fin ger. After cooling off the Heat in Miami, Jordan and his troops are ready for war against the “Bad Boy” Knicks. This is a classic. With Jordan hampered by a strained back, Pippen with ailing knees, and Rodman being disobe dient, the Bulls may have a chal lenge ahead of them. However, the Knicks need not underestimate God. I mean Jordan. He’s at his best when he’s hurt up a little bit. The Knicks are coming off their best play of the season with a load of confidence to go along with that. And with veteran Derek Harper directing the “Saint Knicks,” this series should be what UMASS and Kentucky’s playoff game was...one for the books. With the Knicks thrashing Chi cago by 33 earlier in the season, the proof is in the pudding. Chi cago can be beaten. But no team has beaten them twice in one sea son. If it goes beycmd five games, which I seriously doubt, Chicago advances. One positive outcome from this series is, at least Spike Lee’s pur chase of season tickets will be worth his money. He can harass Pippen or Jordan now because it doesn’t lode as if Reggie Miller and Indiana can pace their way to the second round. Forget church on Sunday, just brace yourself for the Bulls game in Chitown. When Jordan floats across your television screen, you will feel the breeze from the windy city.
