In search of happiness? Do you believe that love conquers all? If you have answered yes to any of these questicxis then you should read “In Search of Satisfaction,” a compelling tale of two sisters by J. California Cooper. Cooper has written a story about Yingyang and Ruth, their children, and the town where they were from during the late 1890's. The story takes place in Yoville “...a legal township founded by the rich fOT their own personal use...” At one time Yoville was the home of a freed slave, Josephus and his daughters, Yingyang and Ruth. Because of untimely circumstances surrounding the death of Josephus, Yingyang and Ruth were on an empowered search for the legacy that Josephus left behind. During their search, the sisters meet a vane ty of people that may or may not be human. Cooper adds a special ingredient to her plot by making the Devil one her main characters. Ultimately the key to Cooper’s tale deals with two forms of satisfaction: The satisfaction one may receive from an achievement, and the satisfaction (Mie may receive from deceptioa Cooper’s characters—the two sisters — do not know that they are indeed searching for happiness — a happiness lost with the death of their father and loss of many other loved ones throughout this book. But as Cooper writes, "Do not depend on anyone else for your happiness... TIMEisused to build our minds, our tool to get some satistfaction. Our minds decide the quality of our lives."
