This is the phUosophy Patti LaBelle has based her life on. At 53, LaBelle is one of the world’s greatest performers, but throughout her life she has had her share of pain and disappointments. Prayer and extra dosages of blessings, arewhat Patricia Armstead - Patti LaBelle's real name - says she believes can make the best get better. In "Don’t Block the Bless ings: Revelations of a Life time” ($24.95, 305 pp., Riverhead) the autobiography of Patti LaBelle written with Laura Randolph, the life that Patti leads, is a tale of blessings lost and found. Xe»Um From the beginning of her career, Patti has had her share of heartache from the untimely death of her sister due to diabetes to the attempted sexual assault by fellow entertainer Jackie Wilson. In her more than 30 plus years musical career, she has lost all but one of her three sisters to cancer, and a host of other relatives and friends in untimely ways. These events have taken Patti on a spiritual path that would introduce her to the power of prayer and the thankfulness of every little blessing life has to offer. This tear-jerking autobiog raphy is entwined with many comedic episodes. Her anecdotes of hope let the reader know that although Patti has lost a lot in her lifetime, she has gained the most powerful element: blessings.
