Mass comm intem produces award-winning video Mamell Hughes, a senior mass communications major wrote an eight- minute video about the tenure of the Jesse Brown, Head of U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, during her summer internship. Due to the success of the video, Hughes, a Washington D. C. native, received a performance award from the Media services Division of the Department of Veteran Affairs. Visual Arts and Humane Studies Department supervised and assisted with registering 105 Bennett Belles in time to vote for primary elections. English majors Adrienne Bailey, a senior, and Valerie Lewis, a junior participated in the SOAR program at Marquette University this summer. The two were engaged in research projects, visited graduate schools, and took the GRE and they each received a $2,400 stipend. Class of 1993 English majors Kimberly Harper graduated from the Sl Louis University School of Law in May, and Erica Veasely completed amaster's de gree in August at Agnes Scott College in Georgia. Dr. Ruth Lucier, professor of philosophy, received an official conunendation letter from the vice president of the Psycho logical Society, Dr. Alexander Asmolov for her editing and other contributions to published work on education and demo cratic values. The fifth annual Bennett College/UNCF annual golf tourney raised $14,000 doubling last year's figure. Ninty -four golfers participated in the event The tourney took place Sept 27 at the Bryan Park Golf course. OOOOQQ Ebony Vibes, the student- produced music video show, received a slot on Channel 8 of the Guilford County Public Access Television cable station. "Ebony Vibes" show cases interviews of rap, rhythm and blues, and gospel music recording artists. The first show will begin airing 9 p.m. Oct. 13. oooooo Network 2000, the mass communicatons majors' organizaton, raised nearly $200 at a car wash at Auto Zone in Greensboro, Oct 4. The money will be used for Network's activitities and programs. Sept. 22. “Business Belles is an event that allowsBennettBelles the opportu nity to display their talents and prove that we are businesslike, also,” said Belinda SpeUer, a se nior biology major from Manhat tan, N.Y. Speller is also president of the chapter. Willis, also, featured a braided hairstyle with the model’s real hair. Ca^sha Gentry, a senior mass communications major from San Francisco displayed her jwrtraits on a table for all to see. Gentry also took orders for Black Heri tage Products, products made for Blacks by Blacks. A display table was set up so that patrons could test the oils and ask specific questions on the proper usage of the products. Camille Overton, a senior biol ogy major from Washington, D.C. was also among the 10 entrepre neurs to showcase her hairstyling talents. Overton featured apin-up and a cut and curl hairstyle. "Business Belles is all about eco nomic development and seeing women as entrepreneurs, a part of the Seven Point Plan given to us by International Grand Basileus, Bar bara West Carpenter,” said Millie West, a senior biology major from New Orleans. This was a way to combine so cial life with academic life, and sorority life on Bennett’scampus,” said Candle Hudson, a junior psy chology major from Chicago.
