SGA received a "thank you note" from Lydon and Jacqueline Thompson for donating the more than $265 that was collected from the Bennett College family during the SGA-sponsored coin drive in December. Mrs. Thomp son is the first known African American woman to give birth to sextuplets (one was stillborn.) Mass communications majors Naima Barbour, a junior from Maryland, Cisha Howard, a senior from Ohio, Kenya Samuels, a junior frran Texas and Ronda Stingley, a junior from Wisconsin will represent Bennett at the National Associa tion of Black Journalists short course March 11-14 at North Carolina A&T. Millicent E. Brown, a professor in the history program, has recently earned her doctorate from Florida State University. Bruce Clark, director of the tele- conununications program at Ben nett College, has been recently appointed the president of the Greensboro Community Televi sion board of directors. GCTV is a public access television statical lo cated in downtown Greensboro. Valerie Lewis, a junior English major from Atlanta, Ga has been invited to present her McNair Pro gram Research Paper at the Na tional Conference for Undergradu ate Research. A'Shauna Tyler, a senior mass communications major from Mi ami and Tennille Francis, a jun ior accounting major from Penn sylvania are going to Orlando to receive a Bryant Gumbel $5,000 Scholarship, and rhey will also attend the Bryant Gumbel Walt Disney Golf Tournament. Francis is a first time recipient, and Tyler is a second time recipient. Tiffani Scurlock, a junior psychology major from Washington, D.C., Latasha Gresham, a sophmore dietitics major from Baltimore, and Kiyona Brewster, a freshwoman pyschology major from Harrisburg, Pa.who are mem bers of the Reader’s Theater performed a skit at the National Organization of Woman of Color and their Allies, Feb. 20- 22, in Alexandria, Va. OOPOOO Shanticarol Otey, a fresh woman from Lynchburg, Va. will perform apoembyAudre Lorde Feb. 27-28 in Houston during the Barbara Jordan memorial Forensic Tournament. Otey is representing the Reader’s Theater. "Participants also learn how current events affect citizens of the world." Bennett students will repre sent six delegations: Bahrain, Bra zil, Cuba, France, Kenya and Por tugal. "Model U.N. enhances stu dents knowledge of world affairs, different positions of the U.N. and different issues while assuming roles of delegates from various countries," said Yolanda Butler, vice president of Political Pacesetters andjuniwpolitical sci ence major from Philadelphia. Gholston and Butler said that campus participation and enthusiam is a major factw in the success of hosting Model U Students will also serve in other capacities. Violet Baffour, sophomore political science major from Ghana, will serve as Deputy Secretary General. Other students will perform as moderators for the conference.
