RITIC’S
ORNER
Tyree delivers a recognizable
story featuring a 'do right man'
By Kenya A. Samuels
Banner Features Editor
Bobby Dallas is an educated
black man whose life has its
share of heartaches, and all he
wants is a strong black woman
to share it with, “a do right
woman, because he’s “a do
right man.”
In Omar Tyree’s latest book,
A Do Right Man ($23 Simon
and Schuster, 350pp,) he has
presented a very entertaining
story about the struggle of a
black man on a quest for love.
Bobby is a Howard
University graduate, and a
native of Greensboro, N.C.
He has had to adjust to the
attitudes of the slow paced,
southern women of Greens
boro, to the aggressive attitudes
of the women of D.C. And in
the process, Bobby runs off to
New York with his first love.
Book tleview
leaving behind a true friend and
what many would call, “the one
that got away.”
As Bobby's story takes
the reader from his 1988
Howard graduation until his
30th birthday in 1997, we see the
trials and tribulations of not only
a man searching for love, but
also a man trying to stabilize a
career in an unpredictable field
of radio production.
After he becomes a multi
millionaire syndicated radio
show host — similar to nation
ally syndicated Tom Joyner -
Bobby realizes that money won’t
always make him happy, and that
he is a good man lacking a good
woman.
In the same style as his
first novel, "Flyy Girl," Tyree
has presented yet another
character who is easily identifi
able in our lives. And a glimse
into the often mixed signals
women send to each other,
despite the fact that they are
both waiting for the light to turn
green.
