Shanticarol Otey, the new Miss Nubian Nuance was crowned at the second annual Miss Nubian Nuance Pageant] March 16. Otey is a freshwoman mass communications major from Miss Nubian fiuance Shanticarol Otey edford County, Va. The Miss ubian Nuance Pageant is based on spirit and the ability to answer impromptu questions. Otey will preside over this year’s Nubian Nuance festivities March 30-April 4. Corinn Smith Vice President Brandy Jones Miss S(^homore....Natalie Stewart Belles break losing streak at Honda All-Star Challenge By Delanissa Moody Banner Reporter Five Bennett Belles broke a year Img losing streak in Orlando when they defeated Miles College in the first round of conpetition at the 9th Annual Honda Cam pus All-Star Challenge Competition March 12-16. The national event is sponsored by American Honda Motor Company, Inc. Competition consists of random questions ranging from literature and math to sports and current events. Each of the 64 HBCU’s present ccm- pete in seven preliminary games with each one lasting 16 minutes. The teams with the highest scores at the end of the second round advance to the “Sweet 16” of the event The top four teams advance to the “Rnal Four'* to play for $25,000 for their institutions. The two win ning teams receive a place in the finals which is televised on BET. Florida A & M University took hrane the Grand Prize of $50,000 after defeating Talledega. Each team receives a $2,500 grant for their institution. The weekend was not all about busi ness. Participants stayed at the Walt Disney World Hilton Resort where they enjoyed unlimited access to the Internet, Playstation, Nintendo 64, food and bev erages. Also at the Hilt(» was a display of Honda’s new automobile models. Re ceding artists, Eric Benet and Phaja, a new group on Warner Brothers label, performed. Contestants also had their choice of visiting Disney World, Epcot Center, The House of Blues, and Universal Stu dios. Next year the competition will be in Washington D.C. The winning team.
