The temperatures reached triple digits for at least 30 con secutive days, and to make matters worse, there was very little rainfall. As a result the Lone Star State had a water shortage prob lem. State officials were forced to institute regulations such as sprinkler usage and how many gallons of water could be purchased from stores. STUDENT OPINION POLL: KENYA A. SAMUELS Editor I thought I had left all that behind when I returned for the fall semester. However, when I returned I ^covered that during the past four to five mOTths Greensboro and surrounding areas had been experienc ing a situation similar to my summer in Texas: dry weather, scarce rainfall. And now I have to relive the restrictions. In Greensboro, the lack of rainfall has resulted in manda tory restrictions such as when to water grass, as well as not washing cars at home. Why are there so many restrictions? Why is the water table low, although it has rained? Answers: The city reservoirs are drying up and the water supply for this city is minimal, and a minimum of 15 inches is needed to begin to refill reservoirs. Belles may be saying "These are Greensboro's problems." However, water conservation is something we all need to be con cerned about. Besides, our college is in Greensboro, and many of us plan to be here at least four years. Everything depends on water. Not only does it make up 75 percent of our bodies, but it is also neces sary for the survival of all of our natural resources. There are simple ways that we Belles can help to save the water supply: Don't run the water while brushing your teeth, washing dishes, or shampooing your hair. It is also a good idea not to run the water too long before getting in the shower.
