EVANS Sports Editor This article has been reprinted because information was deleted in the previous issue. A sinewy Bennett Belle guard, Jun’e Rogers, was named MVP at Spelman’s annual Basketball Qas- sic. This was the first time a Bennett Belle was named MVP at the Classic.The Classic took place at Morehouse College Jan. 12. Rogers, who is a jumor biology majOT from Gary, Ind., she was surprised when she was named MVP. “I was very shocked," Rogers said. "This all came as a surprise because besides the scoring factor, and how well you played, they [the judges] also considered your atti tude. I was honored that they felt I had a good attitude and played well. It was pleasant" During the Classic, Bennett played Fisk University. Rogers came out from the locker room fierce and ready to play. Rogers became the lead scorer for Bennett in the first half. When Rogers received the ball, her hands magically swished in two points one after another. Rogers teammates celebrated her achievement by chanting emphati cally about Bennett College. Belle Sports Briefs BY CANDACE D. EVANS Sports Editor Soccer The Athletic Department is considering varsity soccer in fall 2000. The schedule will have approximately 6-8 games. Practice will be four to five days a week. Brooke Meadows al 273-9448 wiU be in charge of recruiting. Tennis The Athletic Department has a new tennis coach, James Dunwoody. Dunwoody, a native of Jefferson City, Tenn.,attended Knoxville College and has been coaching and teaching for eight years. Special Olympics During our spring break, March 2-5, the Athletic Department hosted its first Special Olympics. The special Olympics consisted of 90 athletes that participated in several athletic events including basketball.
