Some of the awards presented were the President’s Excellence Awards presented to members of each class with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. Leading the way was the fresh- woman class with seven honorees: Vivian Bynoe, Angela Byrd, Monica Hunt, Joy Scott, Cherie Simmons, Na’Quisha Smith and Jameka Strader. One sophomore, Angel Lee, two junior, Kiyona Brewster and Shantilee Otey, and one senior, Zuria Wharton were 26 new computers added to Pfeiffer lab SHAWNTEE ANDERSON Banner Reporter Since the beginning of the fall semester, Bennett has received 26 new PC computers for the com puter lab in Pfeiffer Science. A National Science Founda tion grant of $45,000 and match ing funds from Bennett helped with the purchase of the comput ers. The purpose of the computers is to help improve instruction, said 2000 class tant South, 1800-1860 (1956). He was a historical consultant for Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nomi- nated 1998 film about a slave re volt "Amistad." An Oklahoma native and a Fisk University graduate, Franklin re ceived both his master's and doc toral degrees from Harvard Uni versity. The award is a $50 scholarship and will pay for all her book expenses for next semester. The Bennett College Instru mental Ensemble Award was pre sented to Catherine Rogers and Shaneik Isaac fo devoting a mini mum of eight semesters of faithful service in the cause of music in the college and community. Three Belles were presented with the Political Science Special Service Award: Gajarah Jackson, Phylis Livaha, and Emetta Cagle, for their uncommon readiness to serve colleagues, faculty, and the department. The student of the year award, which was the first of its kind offered by the Student Government Association, was pre sented to Kelli Anderson. The William Alfred Jr. and Louise Guenveur-Streat Scholar honor was presented to Virgina Lee, a senior majoring Interdisciplinary Studies for maintaining the high est academic average for three years. Dr. Ray Treadway, mathematics professoranddirectorof Academic Computing. "We will be putting in Windows 2000 and Multimedia Electronic Notes," Treadway said. He also said that all of the com puters will have Internet access. Each computer has 500 mhz and a lOMG harddrive.
