Clyde Hall attended the ball game in Mount Airy Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Burgiss spent Sunday in Yadkin visiting friends. Dave Woodruff spent the week end in Greensboro visiting his daughter, Mrs. W. R. Harmon. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Harmon who will spend a few days. Be careful folks, Walter Bur giss has tried to turn his Ford into a little silver roadster or “sumpin’.” Come on folks in this depart ment, let’s try to make this the most interesting part of the paper. You be sure to save all the news for me next time. SPOOLING AND BURLING Miss Mary Etta Laffoon spent last week-end visiting relatives in Kernersville. Mrs. Pae Reavis and sons, Charles and Basil, have moved in to the Groce property in Arling ton. Miss Nannie Parks attended the baptizing at Pleasant Ridge last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Broadus Renegar spent Thursday and Friday with their sister, Mrs. Willie Gough, in Winston-Salem. Mrs. H. C. Davis entertained for her son Robert in honor of his ninth birthday at her home Aug. 25th. The following guests were present: Misses Romle Parker, Frances Sprinkle, Bettie Haynes and Masters Jimmie and Tommie Parker, Rannie Smith, Jimmie Hanks and the honor guest. Mrs. Lena Hodge spent a few days last week with her mother- in-law, Mrs. Della Hodge and at tended the revival at her home church. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Laffoon and family spent last Sunday with Mrs. Laffoon’s mother, Mrs. J. R. Burch, near Rusk. Mrs. Ophelia Day and family spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Day. Charlie Long umpired the Elk- in-Mount Airy ball game at Mount Airy, August 26th. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mason spent last week-end with their aunt, Mrs. Clem Dowell, near Greensboro. Miss Marie and Lucile Toledo, Ohio, are visiting Elizabeth Underwood, of Jones- ville. Mr. and Mrs. Thurman of Elmer Eldridge, on Elk Spur street. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Haynes at tended a chicken stew at the home of their aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Keys, in Boonville, recently. Mr. and Mrs. Reggie Myers and family and Mrs. Jane Myers spent last Sunday at Pores Knob and Yellow Jacket Lake, near Wilkes- boro. Mrs. Ina Holcomb spent a few days last week sight seeing in Washington, D. C. She returned home by the way of the Shenan doah Valley and visited a few of the Caverns. Mr. and Mrs. Massie Wilkins and family of Arlington, spent Sunday, August 25th with Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Wilkins and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Alston Boles and family attended the annual Boles reunion August 26th at the home of J. E. Boles. Mrs. Bettie Mauldin spent Sun day with her neice, Mrs. Everette Darnell. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Freeman and family spent last Saturday in Greensboro visiting Mrs. Free man’s sister, Mrs. E. G. Morris. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Davis and family visited relatives in Tay lorsville Sunday. Miss Margurite Lowery spent the week-end at Mooresville visit ing her brother, A. B. Lowery, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sparks took their small son to Statesville last Sunday where he is taking a a series of treatments at the Davis hospital. We are sorry to note that Mrs. Luke Darnell is a patient at the Hugh Chatham hospital. Mrs. Fae Reavis and Mr. and Mrs. U. L. Renegar attended the Elkin-Mount Airy ball game last Sunday. Miss Collie Myers wishes to invite all her friends in this de partment over to her home to see their new twin calves. SPINNING AND CARDING Mrs. C. B. Stanley, who has been the guest of her sister, Miss Emma Hudspth, left Saturday for her home in Bowling Green, Ky. Miss Dorothy Penfield attended the ball game in Mount Airy Sun day. Mont Jones spent the wepk-end in Raleigh. We have learned that Miss Dorothy Penfield has become a man hater. What about this. Dorothy? Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Byrd spent last week-end at Roaring River. trnThrnn Charles Darwin Smithey spent the past week-end at his home in West Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Key spent last week-end with Mrs. Key’s mother in Abingdon, Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Gambill visited friends and relatives in Walnut Cove recently. R. E. Bovender, of Thomasville, spent the week-end in Elkin on business. Estelle, we wonder if you can tell us what business? We heard that Juanita Billings is planning to go north—that is, is Harvey doesn’t go east. The many friends of Mrs. J. L. Powers will be glad to learn that she is now able to go to her meals at the State Sanatorium where she is a patient. She will soon be able to come home. and WEAVING DEPARTMENT Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Young, Mrs. Ina Holcomb and Mrs. Ada Swaim spent four days of last week sight seeing in Washington, D. C. Rev. and Mrs. Johnnie Weath erman and Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Haynes attended church at Fall Creek Sunday. Mrs. Sherman Newman was ab sent from work last week due to the illness of her husband. Mrs. Odell Palmer spent the week-end in King. Among those attending the ball game in Mount Airy on Sunday from our department were: Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Long, Finn Haynes, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pitt man, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Bran non, Clyde Day, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stinson and Grady Day. Etta Mae Long spent the week end in Winston-Salem visiting Mildred Minnish. Those visiting Mrs. Walter Swaim during last week-end were Mrs. Clent Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Darnell, Walter Swaim, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Willard. Mrs. Swaim is a patient at the Davis hospital in Statesville. Mr. and Mrs. Foy Walls spent the week in Burlington, Durham and Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. Cleat Simmons and children returned last week from Richmond, Va., where they visited Mr. Simmons’ brother. They also went to Washington, D. C., while they were away. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Darnell and children returned Sunday after a week’s stay in New York City visiting Mrs. Darnell’s bro ther, Mr. and Mrs. Guy White. Mr. James Burcham and son, Russell, spent Tuesday, August 14th in Mount Airy on business. Sam Erannon, with a party of friends, spent Sunday the 19th, at Healing Springs. James Burcham took his gang from the Wool Dspartment on a camping trip to Bromine Arsenic Springs, Crumpler, during the week-end of August 10th. Those making up the party were Mr. and Mrs. James Burcham, Letty Bur cham, Emma Groce, Roette Cock- erham, Leona Darnell, Pauline Masten, Ralph Fletcher, Myrtle Young, Sam Brannon, Dave Mas- ten, Sol Masten, Ray Russell and Morgan Hanks. Rob Robbins, who has been em ployed here this summer, will leave August 28th to enter the University of S. C. Charlie Munday moved his family here from Hickory. They have taken an apartment on West Main street. Miss Ola Teal has been out sick for a week, but is much better at this writing. Uncle Sol Masten has been ser iously ill at his home on Elk Spur street for some time. We hope he will soon be well. Mrs. Emory Lunday, of Galax, Va., is spending this week with Miss Roette Cockerham. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Munday had as their guests on last Sun day, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Throng- burg, of Hickory. Mr. and Mrs. James Burcham spent Sunday visiting Mr. Grant Cheek, at Lomax. Hugh Isaac Ladd spent the week-end as the house guest of Mr. Charlie Hanks, near Roaring Gap. Lloyd Hensley and Freeman Tyler spent the week-end in Roanoke, Va., visiting the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Tyler. Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Bates spent the week of August 22nd in Pulaski, Va., as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Hill. We are very glad to welcome to our wash room on the night shift, Bill Kimbill, a fugitive from Elk in, and we hope Bill has as good a time here as he did in Elkin. Tom P. Strader spent last week end at Lake Lure, near Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Bates were the recent guests of Elmer Eldridge and family, of Elkin.
