Share Your Car If
You Must Drive It
In the latest report from the State
War Transportation Committee, Ec
usta employees are listed as “Poor”
in the number of passengers hauled
in each car.
A check is made once each month
at all large plants in N. C. and the
results are sent all over the state.
An average of over 4 persons per
car is considered excellent, 3.5 good,
3 fair, and less than 3 is poor. Ec
usta employees had an average of
2.98 at the time of the last check.
While many cars had 4 or more pas
sengers, many more had only 1 or 2.
Since Ecusta employees are in the
habit of being in the fore in all pat
riotic endeavors^ it is surprising to
see our rating near the bottom in
the car sharing program.

Our recreation department has
planned a series of entertainments
for employees, wives and sweet
hearts and the first one of these
events was staged on April 16 in the
Cafeteria.
The entertainment was called a
“Fun Festival and Square Dance”
and over 300 persons attended. Ev
ery one had an enjoyable time and
the event was described as being an
outstanding success.
During the Fun Festival, side
splitting entertainment, under the
direction of John Eversman and fea
turing the Ecusta band and employee-
talent, was presented.
As master of ceremonies, Mr.
Eversman displayed unusual ability.
In a unique novelty act, Tom, Allen
and Slim Bullock, as mother and
baby, were highly applauded, but
the real highlight was a ballet per
formance, featuring the exotic and
glamorously dressed Tony Rhodes,
Hank Newbury, D. J. Luther, Ginny
Wood, A. P. Lance and Oliver Vail-
ancourt. Wood won the coveted hon
or for being the most enchanting
member of the ballet and was named
“Miss Ecusta.” He was also present
ed with a pair of pink unmention-
ables.
Two star members of the band,
Goode Loftis and Mrs. Lita Steppe,
rendered two special musical selec
tions. These two stars were char
mingly clad in rather ancient, aris
tocratic, sophisticated costumes.
The band, with the men dressed
in overalls and the women in ging
ham dresses, played a number of

MANY NEW ENTERTAINMENTS PLANNED FOR ECUSTANS
Ecusta Employees Play Not,-
able Part In Purchase Of
“Miss Transylvania”
With the usual co-operation be
tween employees and management,
Ecusta has played a major role in
the purchase of “Miss Transylvania.”
Like the fellow in the ditch, “we hit
a lick which we could keep up” on
our payroll deduction bond purchas
es. When the Transylvania quota
for the special Second War Loan was
announced, however, we dug into
our pockets for extra money. With
all other Transylvanians, we opened
our safe deposit boxes, mattresses
and tin cans to over-subscribe the
quota as fast as it could be increased.
After the original county quota
of $107,000 had been oversubscribed
twice, the committee raised its sights
at the figure of $300,000, the pur
chase price of a Bombing Plane.
That amount was reached and pass
ed at a final Bond Rally in the Bre
vard high school auditorium on
April 27th, at which time Ecusta
was given public recognition for past
bond purchases and future pledges.
Now that our own special Bomber
is assured, all citizens of Transyl
vania County can take pride in the
fact that “Miss Transylvania” will
carry over enemy territory a person
al message from each of us. We
pledge by our future bond purchases
to keep her well supplied with fuel,
bombs and fighter escort, and possi
bly, in the near future,, we may give
her a sister ship.
For the record, total Bond pur
chases in Transylvania County
amounted to $339,714.50 for the
month of April. Of this total $163,-
341.00 was subscribed by Escusta.
PERIODICAL
LISTS NOW AVAILABLE
So that aU employees may know
what technical, business, general
interest books and periodicals are
contained in the Ecusta Libraries,
lists have been prepared and are
now available at the Recreation Li
brary, to all who are interested in
obtaining them. The book list is set
in alphabetical order by author or
editor and the periodical list in al
phabetical order by title. A central
catalog of ALL Ecusta books and
periodicals is located in the Recre
ation Library and information con
cerning them is also contained there
in.
THANKS FROM RED CROSS
COMMITTEE
The Transylvania Chapter of the
American Red Cross, through their
Chairman, C. M. Douglas of Brevard,
wishes to thank the employees of
Ecusta, Endless Belt and Champagne
for their hearty cooperation in the
recent Red Cross drive. Through
their support, with matched contri
butions by the management of these
companies, Transylvania County far
exceeded its quota.
