THE ECHO t>AGE NIN£ Hail The Champs Of The W. N. C. Bowling League! It was a close race right down to the final night, but our bowlers squeezed in with the champion ship of the W.N.C. Bowling League by the narrow margin of one game. After assuming the top place March 18, the locals clung to the select position down the honue stretch without relinquishing it. Champagne racked up a 12-8 win over Generals May 19, but Machine Room calmed them last Monday 5- 3. On Thursday, May 22, Control whipped the defending champs from the Machine Room, 9-8, to serve notice that it will lie tough this season. The season’s inaugural found Champagne rolling in enough runs spelling, and arithmetic were wait ing for them—so class broke up— and a very interesting session, it was. Basketball Teams Are Entertained The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had an enjoyable banquet Thursday night. May 15th. Ap proximately twenty-five attended. The event was very informal, with the group enjoying dancing and ping pong. A delicious steak dinner, topped off with homemade cake for dessert, was enjoyed by everyone present. in the fifth inning to withstand a last inning threat by Generals. Troy Drake chunked the victory. In Champagne’s next game with Ma chine Room, Milton Pace bested Drake on the mound. In the Control-Machine Room struggle, Holland Corn, of Control, whiffed nine while his teammates poured nine runs across the plate. Inter-departmental League President Leading the Inter-departmental Baseball League this season will be Hugh Bradbum of the Person nel department, and until recent ly in the Inspection department. Future Baseball Stars Eager For Information On Game Athletic Director Jack Alexander had to draw on all of his e^itensive baseball experience the other morning in order to answer the questions fired at him by the 75 youngsters shown above. The^ are students at the nearby Pisgah Forest school and many in the group are children of employees of our company. The, story of Alexander’s visit appears elsGwhere on this page.
