MARTHA SELLERS: MISS HOBBY, INC. butterflies, Carvings, Rocks, Drawings Interest Tthis Versatile Hobbyist One of the most versatile hob byists here is Martha Sellers, of Research. Even though her butterfly col lection is her pet, she has a va ried assortment of minerals, arrow- lieads and wood carvings. Add to these, her musical and art talents, and you have an individual of all- round ability. She has more than 70 species of butterflies and moths, carefully ®nd beautifully arranged in glass frames. Although she has been Collecting them for only four years, Martha says she has been Sreatly interested in nature all of ^er life. She has species from In- 'iia. Africa, Madagascar and other foreign countries. Most of her col lection is local. “I guess I think more of the ®ne from Madagascar than any of the others,” Martha replied when ®sked if she had any favorites in the collection. Her wood carvings are very Petite. The harp and piano are *^arved from cherry wood while the violin is shaped from soap stone. “I don’t suppose a lady should carry a pocket knife,” Mar tha says, “but that’s what I do carving with.” Martha likes to draw, has some '''ell-done works on the wall of her room. She also sings and plays the ''iolin. After reading of these varied *^lents, our opening sentence ®bout Martha’s versatility is hardly ''ecessary, do you think?? CONFUSING QUESTION , Father: “You can ask a question, ‘'^t make it short.” Small Son: “Well, when a doctor ^®ts sick and another doctor doc- ;°rs him, does the doctor doing doctoring have to doctor the Ootor the way the doctor being j^ctored wants to be doctored, or the doctor doing the doctor- of the doctor ®ttts to doctor? doctor as he NEARLY 300 (Continued From Page One) The band has been learning many new pieces of music in ad dition to getting valuable private instruction. Maintenance Departmental News By EMMETT CLARK With good old warm weather here to stay (at least for a few months) everyone is catching sping fever. Some are taking va cations and just resting and some are taking fishing trips, etc. Speaking of fishing, we see by the papers that Ed Happ and fam ily spent some time on the Flor ida coast fishing—and with some real luck. We hear he and his son stand a good chance in the fishing contests. Hershel Edmundson and Bruce Reynolds have been getting up at 4 o’clock in the mornings and going to Cascade Lake fishing. As yet we haven’t seen any proof and we will also give them credit for not telling about how big the ones were that got away. Dock Smallwood almost got pushed into a pipe fitter’s job the other day. He saw what was up, he slowly came back down to the floor. Harold Torrence says next time Jesse James and Lace Lance come out and make fun of his little mule he is going to slap a yoke right around their necks and plow his whole crop. It has been alleged that Cabe and Bruce Reynolds got their pic ture taken somewhere on the mill grounds. Wonder who will be able to fixe the camera (for we know it’s broken). Bub Thompson and Shorty Whit aker went for a cruise and big sea fishing the second of this month on Camp Sapphire Sound. After they had gone out several miles (feet). Bub saw a couple of Whales (3” fish), he got sea sick and Shorty had to bring him ashore and take him home. We understand that Jack Wilson is growing himself a push broom mustache while he is on vacation. Now we hope he doesn’t get chicken hearted and mow it off because we would all like to see it. James Passmore went on a lit tle trip to South Carolina some time back and on his round got mired up to the axles in the red clay mud. A man came by riding a donkey and James asked him if he knew anyone who could pull him out. The little man took James’ tire chains’ hooks from the car and tied a knot in the donkey’s tail; hooked the chains over the knot, and out came the car! All the men in Maintenance took advantage of the Chest X-ray ex aminations that were given here at the plant during the week of May 26. Ben Rickman did a nice job landing the plane which he was flying after it ran out of gas near Horse Shoe. He made a perfect landing in a corn field with no damage to the plane or himself. Will Westall sits on his front porch with a shot gun for fear some certain fellows will dust his bee hives with bean powder. Newbury And Mann Attend Safety Meet Hank Newbury and Jerry Mann of the Safety Department attended the quarterly meeting of the West ern North Carolina Safety organi zation held last Friday night, June 20, at Champion Fibre and Paper Company. Short talks by several Champion foremen featured the meeting. The session was held here at Ecusta last quarter. Part Of Martha Sellers’ Varied Collection WIT
