REFINING NEWS
By Earl Gray
Here comes ”A” shift with its
share of the month’s news. We
want to let everyone know that
we are still on the job ever
trying to do a better job this
year than we did last year.
Frank Tinsley, Coy Surrette,
and Enno Camenzind have en
joyed vacations recently and
both report some hunting and
some working.
Winford Tweed is still im
proving. We are hoping he will
be back to work soon..
John Ball is back to work
after losing about ten days.
Clarence Crow’s mother-in-
law is improved and Clarence is
back on the job as this is being
written.
We wish the weatherman
would give us more warm days
as fuel is not too plentiful this
winter.
If anybody needs any pigs, see
Oscar Harbin. We hear he has
a new model! Red says they are
white Poland China.
When Thad Newman was
talking about his registered dog
not gaining any weight. Coy
Surrette suggested that Thad
show the mongftl all those
papers that say he’s supposed to
be tops in every respect.
We don’t know whether Floyd
Evans has papers with his dog
or not, but we imagine ones
for "Alibi Dogs” are very ex
pensive.
All of us on "A” shift were
sory to hear about the accident
that Mr. and Mrs. Hollings
worth had. Mr. Hollingsworth
is not on our shift, but his
many friends wish him and
his wife a speedy recovery.
LOOSE ENDS
(By Mary Sue Thorne)
Now that Christmas is a
month in the past we can look
back and form a just and un
biased opinion about it. We
think it was one of the merriest
ones we can recall. It seemed
that everybody had the Christ
mas spirit And as we
devoured black eyed peas and
hog jowel on New Year’s Day,
we made a few resolutions, most
of which we shall keep secret, so
in case we break them others
will be no wiser. But we re
solved to make more Endless
Belts during 1948 than have
ever been made before. That we
intend to make better ones
goes without saying .... Inci
dentally, Santa left us a whole
flock of new machines.
Opal Whitmire made a res
olution to get married this year.
And is she making progress!
She already has a diamond! We
think she is just playing safe
in not telling who gave it to
her, because a few dozen other
girls have made the same res
olution Betty Jean
Bryson was married to Bill Heath
of the U. S. Marines on Decem
ber 26 and has resigned to live
in Quantico, Va Endless
has a partial claim on the first
1948 baby in the Ecusta family
—that of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Allison. The baby arrived Jan
uary 5 and is a fine boy. Mrs.
Allison formerly worked in this
department We extend
our sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. L.
W. Hollingsworth who were
seriously injured in a highway
accident recently. L. W. works
in the Beaterroom and Mrs.
Hollingsworth is one of our old
girls. We are wishing for both
of them a quick recovery

"All—aboard—” for 1948, a
year which we all hope and pray
will grant to everyone health,
peace, and security.
John Burwell and his wife
are spending a glorious vaca
tion down in Bermuda where
they are visiting his family.
Dot and David were married
in a lovely ceremony at the
Methodist church last month.
When David graduates from
Wake Forest this month, they
will be at home in their attrac
tive new home on Franklin
Street.
Betty Trantham and her hus
band had a wonderful time in
Charlotte during the holidays.
We all wish the best of suc
cess to Jerry Marder, who has
left the Technical Staff to re
turn to his medical studies at
the University of North Caro
lina.
A1 Skinner is happy to have
his family home again in their
new residence.
Joe Schlosser is busy build
ing a new home for his family
on Franklin Street.
Grace Tinsley and Mabel Gal
loway have transferred from
Evening Shift to Days. Hope
they like us There
doesn’t seem to be much news
right now, but with the
approach of Roosevelt’s birth
day and Valentine Day we ex
pect things to brighten up. And
that is a reminder—^will every
one please make a contribution
to the March of Dimes?
