CANTEEN-CAFETERIA CHATTER BY BETTY ANN ORR We are glad to hear that everyone had such a nice Christ mas. From all reports Santa was good to everyone. He tried very hard to please us all, and did a swell job. Three of our girls returned from the holidays as brides. They are: Josephine McGaha, Ruth Gillespie, and Mildred Frisbee. Congratulations and the best of luck to each of you. Velma Lakey is wearing a beautiful diamond that she got for Christmas; but the way, the lucky man is Franklin Rackley, also of Finishing. Lessie McCall must have given Santa a little hint for him to have brought her such a love ly watch. Ted Gillespie is also wearing a new watch. Santa surely gave it to him because we know of no other who would be so gen erous. Dobbin McCrary enjoyed a nice Christmas in Florida. We wish Mildred Allison a speedy recovery after having her tonsils removed at Patton Mem orial hospital in Hendersonville. We also wish to extend speedy recoveries to Gladys O’Dell and Margaret Hill who have had operations—Hurry and (By Anne Kitchen) We welcome J. T. Reid and Lewis House to our department; hope they enjoy their work. Mrs. Bessie Cheek spent a re cent weekend in Pickens, S. C., visiting her sister who has been serious ill but is improved. Mrs. Divola Nicholson had a vacation Christmas week and spent most of her time visiting her mother, Mrs. Charlie Cog- diU of Sylva. Mr. McCall also had a vacation and spent most of his time at his home. Walter Robinson was passing out cigars recently. He is the proud papa of a brand new girl born Saturday, January 10. We miss Mildred Baumgar- ner. get well, girls. Frosty Johnson and Ruth Orr are now having to sit home and write letters to their husbands on these cold nights since they decided to be school boys again. They are attending television school in Kentucky. Those enjoying vacations dur ing December were; Verda Masters, Richard Orr and John Smith. We welcome the following to our department: Dixie Crane, Alma Baynard, Ethel M. Clark, Aleen Baynard, Anna Belle Newman, and Jack Mackey. BY THELMA GLAZENER As usual New Year’s resolu tions were made and most of them broken by the Chem Lab. Pearl Mull decidedly broke hers. She resolved to give up a certain item in her daily diet and since the resolution she has doubled her consumption of said item. You can’t win! Dot Johnson spent her vaca tion, beginning December 26, in Greensboro and Chapel Hill. Buvee Capps came to work all smiles and sighs on January l6th,—she had just passed her driving license test. Dr. Sigmon and' family visit ed in Newton during the Christ mas holidays. Lucy Clarke visited in Char leston, S. C. January 13. Mrs. Earl Hall has been ill at Duke Hospital and, Earl, we hope that Nan will soon be home again and getting well fast. Hazel Arrowood has recently transferred from the Physical Lab to the Chem Lab. Welcome, Hazel! Mary Shytle took her vacation the last week in December and spent most of it at her home in Hendersonville. Our wishes for a very speedy recovery to Mrs. Bob Matthews. KNOW YOUR REPORTER Despite a rather fast turnover in reporters from the Main office, it seems there’s always a good one on hand. When Ted Reese shoved off to college and Felicia Edwards became a housewife, replacements were necessary. Thelma Alexander and Howard Schmidt consented to help gather the news, but soon Thelma resigned in order to devote her full time to little Randolph Jackson. Howard, then, was by himself, but is doing a grand job. He is also captain of the Office "B” Bowling team.
