LOOSE ENDS By Mary Sue Thorne Now that spring is here, I mean that a March gale is blow ing, folks are vacationing, fish ing and gardening. Catherine Dills is back from vacation in Silver Springs and Daytona Beach, Florida. She’s all nice and tan too. . . . Martha Harris had a vaca tion last month too, which she spent mostly fishing . . . At this writing, Edna Mae McCrary is sick. We hope she will be well again soon. And we are sorry Mary Henderson is sick. She is out for a major op eration. Mary Alice Merrill has also been on the sick list .... Clara Stepp has the newest spring hair cut we’ve seen. It’s cool, short and snazzy! Evelyn Morrow is getting her spring sewing lined up. Evelyn says she has a lawn and flowers to tend, too. Violet Patterson and Callie Talley are slaughtering their last porkers and having the meat cured for summer. We can defi nitely smell and almost taste those hams! Evelyn Taylor, Clara Lee Rop er, Edna Extine, Betty Fisher, Betty Galloway, Ruby Win chester, Fannie Jo Tinsley, Mae Stansell and Bessie Gravely have recently been transferred from Evening shift to Days. . . . We find that we have a poet and song writer in our midst. Edna Extine is having a song published in Hollywood. She has promised us a first edition. Her ode to spring appears at the end of this column. . . . We wonder if Amanda Pow ell has a braille system on her loom. . She runs belts off just like hot cakes with her eyes closed. Yes siree, they are good ones! She says she’s applying for a patent on her automatic system of weaving. . . Essie Whitmire and Millie O’ Dell are a-feudin’ and a-fightin’ but they haven’t killed gran’ma yet, about which one of their little new niece, Gloria Jean Fisher, is the most like. Millie ’lows it has her lovely blonde coloring while Essie vows the baby has her s-w-e-e-t disposi tion. . . . From all the chatter about Easter bonnets, we know the girls are all dolling up for the Easter parade. And we can’t blame them, the new clothes are irresistible, haven’t seen so many pretty things since before the war SPRING Spring is just around the corner, As everyone should know. You can see it, feel it Everywhere you go. March wind is still blowing But it feels nice and warm. No need to look for snowing It’s spring, and there’s no harm. Flowers peeping out of the ground. Some are yellow and some are blue. Birds are singing in the trees It’s spring and they are happy too. Yes, spring is just around the corner So shining bright and new. It’s getting closer and closer to us I’m so glad, aren’t you? "Support the Red Cross" We should work eight hours and sleep eight hours, but not the same eight. CANTEEN- CAFETERIA CHATTER BY Ann Kitchen The March wind has been blowing but we hope it doesn’t bring snow for Spring is sup posed to be just around the cor ner.
