Mr. Harry H. Straus Tosses Out First Ball To Open Baseball Season With one of the largest opening day crowds in history on hand, Mr. Harry H. Straus tossed out the first ball on Satur day, April 23, to officially open the 1948 baseball season for Ecusta. A crowd estimated at more than 1,500 witnessed the tilt with Hazelwood and yelled its approval of the 9-8 vic tory over the last year’s champions. At the right, Mr. Straus is following through with his opening toss that started the game off with a bang. Below, Mr. Straus is shown on the Ecusta bench with Clint Morris and Grover Suttles, two of Ecusta’s pitchers and R. F. Bennett. Along with many other Ecusta fans present, Mr. Straus was well-pleased with Ecusta’s strong finish that won the game and he conveyed his wishes to the team for a success ful season. As all of you know, Mr. Straus is a staunch sup porter of Ecusta’s recreational and athletic programs. ★
