She was riding in the front seat of a friend’s automobile which tried to climb a pole at Pack Square and the shock threw her against the ash tray on the dashboard. We are sure glad it was not serious. Vacation time is in full swing now. Virginia Steppe, Kitty Russell, and Hicks Scruggs spent a week getting a good tan at Myrtle Beach. Pearl Hamlin journeyed to New London, Conn. to escort Vera Kuchler home. Before she left Pearl vowed that she would pay no more than $10.00 for the Brooklyn Bridge. Harvey Souther drove to West Point with his family to witness the graduation of his cousin there and then con tinued on to New Hampshire where he reports cold weather. Jean Whitmire spent her vacation in New York and Canada with her mother. Catherine West spent a week at home in Ander son. Mike Walker attended the Indianapolis Auto Races. Mary Armfield spent her vacation in Day tona Beach with her husband and son. Lily Burch is taking a trip to Canada and a sail on the St. Lawrence River. To Hal Gibson goes the honor of being the new father for this month. He reports the birth of a daughter. Congratulations, and thanks for the cigar. Mr. Harris has been very ill and we are all pulling for a speedy recovery and are looking forward to his early return to the office. Frances Lewis has resigned to keep house and Virginia Pickelsimer has resigned to move to Winston-Salem where Charlie is going to school. The Office A Bowling Team finally had their trophy mounted in a glass display case in the Main Office where it will repose for at least two years as it is a foregone conclusion that the "B” team will annex it this coming season. The office was saddened to hear that Kathleen Ricker’s mother passed away on June 14. Receiiily„„„o Miss Edith Stiles, secretary in the Control department since 1944, was married to Charles Henry Summey of Brevard on Sunday, June 6, at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Gerald King, in Clayton, Ga. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Stiles of Franklin. After a wedding trip through Ken tucky, the couple returned to Brevard where they will make their home. 13
