Ecusta Still Trailing Enka The big baseball news this month still centers around the battle Enka and Ecusta are waging for top honors in the WNC Industrial League. In games through July 18, Enka held the command ing position with a 12-1 record and Ecusta was firmly settled in second place with a 9-3 won and loss record. Our only defeat of the month came at the hands of Enka, 3-2, in a battle on the loop-leaders’ diamond Tuesday, July 13. Despite some rather odd plays, our men held their own until the ninth. In this fatal inning, with the rain coming down in sheets, the Rayonites pushed across the winning run. Machine Room Maintain Lead Since the last edition of The Echo, the Ma chine Room baseballers have suffered their first defeats of the season, but still hold a big lead in the league standings. Rain interrupted play on several occasions and with these rained out games to be played, the championship rests in doubt, although with its lead. Machine Room will be hard to beat. After an extremely slow start, tUe defending champions from Control have finally come to life and are now tied with Generals for second place in games through July 14. Both Control and Generals have a slim mathematical chance to cop the title. Control was the first team to beat Ma chine Room, June 16, in a 19-18 slugfest. In fact. Control has won its last four games in a row. INTERDEPARTMENTAL RESULTS June 16—Control 19, Machine Room 18.
