EAVE-DROPLETS By Andrew Harrell Guess I should start with a boast, and a remind er to you, "that I told you so”! Remember last month it was "Fire-ball” Winget who I said was chunking the Generals to the top of the Inter departmental League. Well, at this writing they are in a tie with Machine Room. Too bad "Fire ball” Winget and ”Satchel” Paige weren’t dis covered 20 years earlier. It’s a matter of "born 20 years too soon” or discovered too late. Someone asked me the other day why Sam Mat thews and the new Ford were so much alike. The answer—a power-house with coil spring suspen sion. We are very happy for Mr. Finck and family that they are pretty well settled in their new home on Still Hill. It’s a gorgeous valley scene and a beautifully designed home. Many happy, "homey” hours to them. May we take this opportunity to bring to your attention the importance the health authorities attach to water as a source of infection in com municable disease. The recent ban on swimming pools in the polio outbreak doesn’t stress so much the standard for drinking water, but let us all review our own sources at home and be doubly sure that it is free from all contamination. Need we be reminded that only a few years ago one of our greatest sources for the spread of disease, such as typhoid, dysentery, etc., was traced to impure water supplies. If you have an open water sup ply such as springs, shallow wells, mountain streams, etc., be sure there is no means for con tamination in or near its source of supply—Good water can mean good health. Hope everyone is ready for a grand display of all those fresh and canned fruits and vegetables in the Harvest Festival next month. It’s always a grand array each year and this one should be bet ter than ever. If you aren’t ready, now is the time to really begin preparations for I should think there will be plenty of competition. Ecusta Exhibit At Lion’s Convention The 800 Lions from North Carolina went to the club’s annual convention this month in New York City to prove to the 30,000 delegates that North Carolina is the best state in the union. To prove their point, the Tar Heel Lions assembled a fine exhibit, featuring the greatest re sources and attractions of our State. Since North Carolina walked off with first place honors, let’s assume the Lions from the Old North State accomplished their mission. One of the highlights of the prize-winning North Carolina dis play was Ecusta’s big exhibit shown be low. Brevard was signally honored in the election of Mr. E. H. McMahan, promi nent local attorney, to the office of in ternational director.
