It’s a girl—Patricia Ann—for Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Mann (Inspection). She was born June 3 at St. Joseph’s in Asheville, weighing 6 lbs., 11 02. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Watson (Endless Belt) announce the birth of Lawrence Wayne, July 10, at the local hospital. He weighed 5 lbs., 8 oz. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Surrette (he’s caretaker at Camp Sapphire) are the proud parents of Peter Venus, born July 14, and weighing 7 Vi lbs. Lee Brooks is the name of the new boy at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dunlop (Main Office). Born at Biltmore Hospital July 21, he tipped the scales at 7 lbs., 12 oz. Mary Elizabeth was the name chosen for the new daughter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 'Speedy’ Jones (Refining). August 2 was the birth date of Mary Elizabeth and she was born at Biltmore Hospital. Dr. and Mrs. Charles Ray (California Central Fibre) joined the cigar-passing group the same day, August 2, announcing the arrival of Janet Pfeiffer, 6 lbs., 2 oz. daughter born at Biltmore also. August 4 was the birth date of Donald Elliott Bickett, 7V2 lb. son of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott B. Bickett (Main Office). Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Roberts, Jr. (Machine Room) announce the arrival of Donald Mason, husky 8 lb. boy born July 17 at the local hos pital. Bessie Denise is the new girl at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donnell Galloway (Fibre Ware house.) She was born July 29 at the local hospital and weighed 5 lbs. Mus Mildred Price of End less Belt became the bride of Clyde Rice of Champagne Printing in an impressive ceremony at the Macedonia Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon, July 18. A recep tion was held at the home of the bride’s parents after the wedding and was attended by approximately 100 friends and relatives. The couple toured the Smokies on their wedding trip. PLANT RESEARCH NEWS By Dona Wright Lillie says there’s nothing more pleasant than spending a vacation at home—resting some and canning—making jellies, jams and such, to enjoy during the cold winter months, and that’s just what she did. Sounds wonderful, Lillie, I’ll get with the gang—we’ll "sharpen up” our appetites and be right up. Mr. and Mrs. Vannah spent their annual vaca tion at their cottage in Friendship, Maine. Mr. Vannah says he just took life easy. In addition to "filling up” on lobsters and clams, they attended the wedding of their oldest son, William, who was married to Dorothy Macomber in the Augusta Country Club at Manchester, Maine on July 24. A little daughter, Janet Pfeiffer, came to live with Dr. and Mrs. Ray on Monday, August 2. Mr. Vannah, Dr. Ray and Mr, Fendley went on the August 12 th farm tour of the corn demon strations in Transylvania County. Your reporter and Margaret Smith and Violet Lyda of Machine Booklet attended a square dance at Cherokee recently. Mr. Summey’s son and daughter-in-law from Baltimore were down on a visit in July. The young Mrs. Summey said North Carolina was wonderful. This was her first trip here. 14
