DEMOCRACY v! 3. COMMUNISM Everyone has basic rights and freedoms guaranteed. No one has guaranteed rights. Everyone is subservient to four teen Politbureau dictators. Freedom of the Person No arrest without warrant; no arbitrary siezure of persons or property or search of homes. Trial by jury guaranteed. Arbitrary arrests; imprisonment without trial, police seize any one; search any home; everyone watched by spies. Other Freedoms Free press and radio, free speech. Freedom to seek truth, in schools, in universities. Relig ious freedom. State controlled press and ra dio; persons criticizing govern ment imprisoned. State tells everyone what to be lieve, though often untrue. Church dominated by state. Representative Government Government by laws enacted by chosen representatives of the people. Government by decrees of dicta tors, without consent of the people. Free elections, candidates nom inated in primary elections or conventions of parties. One party “elections,” candi dates chosen by Communist party officials. \ Economic Freedom Anyone is free to start any kind of business. State controls all business. No private enterprise. Anyone may own a home, farm or business. State owns housing facilities, farms, businesses. Worker is free to choose job and change job. State dictates job, freezes work er in job. Result High living standards. I Miserable living standards.
