HARVEST
FESTIVAL
SEPT. 3rd
Hon. J. M. Broughton
To Speak
All is in readiness for the fourth annual Ecusta
Harvest Festival which will be held in the Cafe
teria Friday night, September 3, at 8 p, m. From
one end of the Cafeteria to the other and even
on the side porches, Ecustans and their families
will display the best of their gardening efforts
for this season.
Former Governor J. Melville Broughton will
speak at the program Friday night. Mr. Brough
ton is well known to Ecustans through his visits
here and his speaking at the July 4 picnic in 1944.
As is customary, Mr. Harry H. Straus will also
talk. He has taken a great personal interest in the
Festival since it was founded in 1945.
The Ecusta band will provide special music for
the occasion. The movies taken at the annual pic
nic July 5 will be shown as part of the program.
These are in color and were taken by Walter
Glass.
There has been a major change in the method
of presenting prizes this year. Under the new
plan, more people will win cash prizes and at the
same time, no one will win more than one
merchandise prize. There will be eight Grand
Sweepstakes prizes rather than the customary
one. Winners in the division will be awarded
extra points toward the Grand Sweepstake prizes.
This year’s Sweepstakes prizes are as follows in
the order named: G-E Automatic Ironer, Apex
vacuum cleaner, with all attachments; portable
radio; G-E Electric Blanket with dual control;
table model radio; automatic toaster; electric,
automatic coffee maker; and an electric iron. The
first prize was obtained through the cooperation
of the local McCrary Home and Auto Supply
Store and Festival sponsors are grateful for this
help.
In the individual display competition, the first
prize will be $15 cash; second prize, $10; and
third prize, $5. Points will be 1500, 1000, and
500 respectively. Quantity prizes will be points
of 1500, 1000, and 500 credited toward the
Festival sweepstakes prizes. In the Fresh Fruits
Main speaker for the Festival will he Former
Governor J. Melville Broughton. He is well-
known to Ecustans through his previous visits
here. The picture at the top of the page introduc
ing the story shows Mrs. Al Montville in the
midst of her attractive and well-kept flower gar
den.
