Ecusta tFins Transylvania County Softball Title . . .
With slugging Ed Allen driving out nine home
runs and hitting a torrid .348, the Ecusta soft-
baliers experienced one of their finest seasons
this year, winning 15 and losing 4 to cop the
championship of the Transylvania League.
A glance at the season’s records indicates that
12 of these victories were scored in the regular
Transylvania League season with three more
coming in the playoffs which Ecusta also won.
In non-league games, the locals broke even, de
feating Greenwood, S. C. 5-4 and losing to Elks
Club of Asheville, 3-2.
Fritz Merrell racked up 13 wins cn the mound
while losing three to gain a .812 record and Jim
Griffin won three of his four starts for a .750 per
centage.

In many respects, the 1948 softball season was
one of the best in history. The men copped the
championship of the local league during the
regular schedule and then went on to win the
playoff.
