So much was at stake in the crucial game with Enka on August 28 that an air of tenseness pre vailed through the nine innings. With a victory, Ecusta stood a good chance of overtaking the leading Rayonites, but it just wasn’t our day and Enka went home with a 3-5 decision RAY BYRD'S .410 Even though our Ecusta baseballers did not win the pennant in the WNC Industrial League this year, the season did provide some extra-or dinary achievements. Moore, Enka Voice) AVERAGE LEADS a .345 clip and had seven regulars batting over .300 for the season. (3) Grover Suttles, our ace pitcher, built up a won and lost record of 14-2 for the season. (4) The team had a record of 17 wins and four defeats in league play—a record that equalled the performance of the 1941 championship team. All in all, it was an interesting season, chock full of good games and offering fans an excellent brand of baseball. Clean sportsmanship prevailed at all games and all Ecustans are proud of the splendid manner in which our team always con ducted itself.
