MACHINE BOOKLET LOOSE ENDS AND AUTOBOUND By Margaret Smith and Sara Loftis We are glad that our relatives and friends had the opportunity of going through the plant on the Family Days. Hovey and Alberta Talley attended the Indian Fair at Cherokee recently. Also Violet Lyday who went with some of her friends, on Saturday night. Those who are taking advantage of the Singer sewing class in Asheville each Thursday night are Laura Pharr, Tulen Israel, Margaret Smith, Dot Gray, Ann Misenheimer and Marie Smith. We hope these girls will model their dresses for us when they are finished. Taking vacations from this department this month are Clara Bryson, Edna Oliver, James McDowell, Alma Holtzclaw and Irene Staton. Most of them stayed home and rested. We miss Thelma Snyder who is out from work due to an operation. Since the Smokies are at their height in fall colors, Carolyn Garren, Tulen Israel, Edith Wright and Dixie Whitaker visited them on Sunday. Lillian King is having the inside of her house remodeled. Maymie Reynolds showed us the picture of her new grandbaby. It’s easy to see why she calls it her "pride and joy.” So long folks; next month Eula will be your reporter. Gene Eggert and his wife and mother left for a vacation trip to Texas and Mexico October 9. They will visit Gene’s sister and his wife’s brother and other relatives and friends in Houston, San Antonio and points across the border . . . The mention of Texas reminds me that I had an invitation to Ft. Worth myself October 13 for the celebration of the 100th birthday of my great aunt, Mary Sue Thorne Collins. She went to Ft. Worth to live when she was 18. At that time there were only three brick buildings in the town which have long since been replaced by magni ficent new ones. Aunt Mary Sue’s grandfather was burned to death at the age of 104. He went into the woods where they were clearing up and swallowed sparks. Yes, I’m proud of my old Aunt but my Mother had two older great aunts who were sis ters, one of whom lived to be 110 and the other 115 years of age. "The sacred rights of mankind are not to be rummaged for among old parchments or musty records. They are written as with a sunbeam in the whole volume of human destiny by the hand of divinity itself, and can never be erased or ob scured by mortal power.”—Alexander Hamilton land, N. C. We are sorry Divola’s brothers were in a near serious accident at Balsam Gap last week, but they are both improving at this writing. Messrs. Joe Duckworth and Leon English at tended the Carolina-Georgia ball game at Athens, Ga. last Saturday. J. A. Wilde made a hurried trip to Ocala, Florida last week-end, October 3rd. 15
