BOWLING SEASON GOING
... FULL SPEED ...
The Ecusta Interdepartmental Bowling League
opened its 1948 and 49 season on Monday night,
September 20th, with twelve teams representing
many departments in the mill.
The Maintenance Hawks were leading the
league as of Wednesday, October 13th, followed
closely in second place by the last year cham
pions, the Champagne Cardinals. With four teams
tied for the third place spot in standing, they
are serving notice that many changes will take
place in the standings during the season.
Much enthusiasm is being shown among the
bowlers and many of the teams have tagged their
aggregation with new names for this year. In
order to familiarize yourself with them, the team
names and captains are listed as follows: The
Maintenance Hawks, Waverly Morris; Office
Bees, Howard Schmidt; Refining, Bill Henson;
Office Pirates, N. L. Ponder; Maintenance Eagles,
Blaine Emory; Champagne Cardinals, Louis
Meece; Research Rebels, Lloyd Harris; Cham
pagne Dodgers, Bob Collier; Finishing, Ray Rig-
don; Champagne Cubs, Walter Green; Storeroom,
Jim Bradley; and Machine Room, L. E. Callendar.
The League will run on a 22 weeks schedule
for the season with the annual Ecusta Handicaps
tournament to be held after the close of the
season.
Trophies will be awarded to the first, second,
third and fourth place teams at the end of the
season. Other awards will be made to the three
bowlers having the highest average, and the three
highest sets at the end of the season. The bowler
having rolled the highest single game of the sea
son for his team will also receive a prize, along
with the most improved player on each team.
