Ecustas first Family Day” was definitely a success, despite
one or two days of bad weather. Over 1,800 passes were is
sued and used during the six days of the event. For many of
the visitors, it was their first time through the plant although
they had heard much about Ecusta since the company was estab
lished here nearly ten years ago. Six days were set aside for the
event—September 28, 29, and 30 and October 5, 6, and 7.
Upon arrival, the visitors were divided into groups and
assigned to guides who conducted them on an extensive tour of
the plant. The tours were so planned as to give the visitors a
look at every process in paper-making.
Returning to the cafeteria at the conclusion of the tour,
the guests were served delicious refreshments and enjoyed a
concert by the Ecusta Band. The cafeteria was attractively ar
rayed with exhibits and displays showing almost every phase of
activity at Ecusta—products, safety, recreation, athletics, per
sonnel procedures, etc. Much interest was shown in the ex
hibits.
General chairman of Family Day was E. B. Garrett, Jr.
Guides were in charge of R. F. Bennett, Frank Patton, and A1
Montville. Jack Alexander and Fritz Merrell had charge of the
athletic display while Hank Newbury and Jerry Mann pre
pared the safety display. The band and recreation display was
made by John Eversman, H. T. Casterton, Charles Glass and
Lucille Heffner. The products display was arranged by Charlie
Russell and Lewis Alexander and refreshments were in charge
of Leon English. Walter Straus was in charge of all the printing.
Chief Buck McCall and his men kept the traffic situation under
control and the physical arrangements of the cafeteria were
under the direction of Furman Cansler.
