However, a fireman at that time, felt that the old bell with such interesting history back of it, should not' be allowed to remain in the corner catching dust and becoming covered with rust. He suggested that it be put to use as a water fountain. After a period of inactivity, the bell which once rode to the fires clanging its message out to the town, was made into a water fountain and today it is in use in front of the County Court House in Brevard. The old fire bell is still serv ing a very useful purpose and is a constant re minder of the days that used to be. Industrial Editors Visit Ecusta .... Visitors to Ecusta during the month of October were the members of the Carolinas Industrial Editors Council and the Appalachian States Coun cil, who made a tour of Ecusta as a part of their program for the three day meeting held in Ashe ville on October 21, 22 and 23. Mr. A. L. Bechtold, Chairman of the convention, representing Lance, Inc., headed the party on their visit to Ecusta. Twenty-three persons were in the group making the tour through the plant and taking a part in a reception held in the cafeteria afterward. Many of the members of the Editors Council expressed delight in their visit and made many complimentary remarks about Ecusta’s working conditions, the company sponsored activities, and what a nice place we have in which to work here at Ecusta. j Our Ecusta Square Dance Team took part in entertaining the Editors at the Council meeting the night of October 21st.
