ECUSTA'S WNC BOWLERS TIED FOR TOP Ecusta’s WNC bowlers have been climbing steadily for the last few weeks in the WNC league standings; and at this writing our Ecusta team is tied with the Pisgah Motor Court and Champion keglers for first place. To give you an idea of the keen competition in the League this year, as of November 9 the bottom team was only six games behind the League’s leaders. The WNC League has a 28-week schedule which ends March 15. The teams bowl on Tues day night of each week, playing on a home-to- home basis, using bowling alleys at Enka, Bre vard, Biltmore and Asheville. If you would like to enjoy seeing a good bowling match some Tues day night, below is Ecusta’s schedule for the next five weeks. November 23—*Ecusta vs. Reed & Abee November 30— Ecusta vs. Army Store December 7—* Ecusta vs. Enka. December 14—*Ecusta vs. Standard Supply. December 21—*Ecusta vs. Pisgah Motor Court. * Denotes home matches. Bowling Season In Full Swing At Ecusta With the 1948 and 1949 bowling season well under way, the main topic of discussion is bowl ing, and if you hear two fellows discussing splits, spares, strikes, misses and averages, they aren’t talking about acrobatics, or about tires, or fish ing and finances, they are discussing the good old game of bowling, using bowling lingo in their speech. Last month the Maintenance Hawks were lead ing the league and as of November 10 the Cham pagne Cardinals and Champagne Cubs were tied for the League’s leadership, followed closely by the Office Pirates and the Finishing Five. The Maintenance Hawks dropped to fifth place in the race. With fifteen weeks yet to go there is a pos sibility that the standings will be juggled quite a few times before the season ends. John Emory, of the Research Rebels, led the League with the highest individual average for the first six weeks of bowling, but dropped to second place at the end of the seventh week, as Chris PvOgers of the Champagne Cardinals forged ahead by one pin. The ten high individual bowlers’ averages for the first seven weeks of bowling are listed below. 15 Games or more C. Rogers, Cardinals 173 J. Emory, Rebels 172 J. Lavell, Finishing 172 W. Straus, Cardinals 170 B. Reynolds, Eagles 168 W. Green, Cubs 167 B. Albert, Cardinals 164 H. Misenheimer, Dodgers 162 L. Meece, Cardinals 162 W. Morris, Hawks I6l W. N. C.
