All of the people who work with Mr. Harry H. Straus gave him a surprise party Saturday night, January 8th, in honor of his 65th birthday. Approximately eight hundred employees and guests were on hand to wish him many happy re turns of the day. The program consisted of fun, music, magic and a chorus of lovely ladies (?). After Mr. Straus had cut the 280 pound cake, all who attended the party were served a piece of the cake, ice cream, turkey sandwiches and soft drinks. Cake and ice cream were served to the employees who were working and unable to attend the party. The employees presented Mr. Straus with a Scott radio-phonograph, twelve silver cups, and a large birthday card inscribed with the names of all employees. A huge birthday card and a mov- inv electric sign, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. STRAUS, were used as a background for the presents, and streamers around the cafeteria spell ed out HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. STRAUS and HAPPY 40th ANNIVERSARY MR AND MRS STRAUS. TO MR. AND MRS harry H. STRAUS It is obvious from the program Why we’re gathered here this eve, And hope you will have had much fun When it is time to leave. We’ve thought about this party In the many weeks that passed, And the Joy we had in planning it Can never be surpassed. We would like to be on record As we sit about this hall. That the laughs and gaiety we’ve had Are the efforts of us all. From Shanty-town to filter plant. From power-house to gate, From end to end about Ms plant We’ve looked forward to this date. It is the Ecusta gang that welcomes you And in unison we say, God Bless you Mr. Straus And a very happy birthday. We could have ended at this point For lack of words and rhyme. But there is more that must be said So we have planned the time. In thinking out this party And all to make it gay, We decided to combine events To include a wedding day, lust forty years ago this week You took yourself a wife, A Person who you always say Plays a big part in your life. We would like for her to share with you The plaudits that are due. And stand together side by side For that which will ensue. We ask you sir, to take the hand Of your most charming spouse And come with her to this stand Friends, greet MR. AND MRS. STRAUS. 2
