INTRODUCING OUR
NEW DOCTOR
Thirty-six years ago in the nearby town of
Statesville, our new company doctor, Mac Roy
Gasque, was born. His stay in Statesville was
short lived when Mr. and Mrs. Gasque moved to
the City of Asheville, N. C.
It was in Asheville, when Doctor Gasque
started his early period of education. Following
seven years of grammar schooling, he enrolled
and was graduated from the Lee Edwards High
School in the year 1930. While attending Lee
Edwards he was active in all sports with parti
cular success in football.
Following graduation he attended the Char
lottesville School for Boys in Charlottesville, Vir
ginia. While there he continued his participation
in the various sports offered by the school.
In his selection of a college, the Doctor chose
the University of Tennessee as his Alma Mater.
During the first year at the University, he earned
his letter in basketball and football.
Doctor Gasque is not hesitant in saying that
his "real” studying began upon his entering the
Medical School at the University of Virginia in
1939. Following graduation, he served his in
ternship at the same University. In a dual capa
city, he also assisted in the teaching of anatomy.
As in the case of many young doctors, the U.
S. Armed Services found need for the services of
Doctor Mac Roy Gasque. Serving as a Lieuten
ant (j.g.) in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps, he
saw duty aboard the U. S. S. Wyoming.
Immediately after V-J Day, Doctor Gasque
entered a year’s specialized study in Surgery as
Resident Surgeon at McGuire General Hospital
in Richmond, Virginia.
After a year of specialized training at McGuire
General, the Doctor entered general practice at
Fontana Dam, N. C. Along with his general
Dr. Mac Roy Gasque
practice, he assumed the responsibility of Medi
cal Management for three large industrial cor
porations. He remained at this post until joining
us here at Ecusta.
Doctor Gasque married Olene Stafford of
High Point in 1939. He is now the proud father
of three boys. Mac Roy, Jr., age 6; Gay, age 4;
and John, age 2. The family is now residing at
570 E. Main Street.
In answer to a query as to his favorite hobbies.
Doctor Gasque has this to say, "For the past ten
years my time for a hobby has been very limited,
however, I hope to get back to my occasional
game of golf as soon as possible”.
