INTRODUCING OUR NEW DOCTOR Thirty-six years ago in the nearby town of Statesville, our new company doctor, Mac Roy Gasque, was born. His stay in Statesville was short lived when Mr. and Mrs. Gasque moved to the City of Asheville, N. C. It was in Asheville, when Doctor Gasque started his early period of education. Following seven years of grammar schooling, he enrolled and was graduated from the Lee Edwards High School in the year 1930. While attending Lee Edwards he was active in all sports with parti cular success in football. Following graduation he attended the Char lottesville School for Boys in Charlottesville, Vir ginia. While there he continued his participation in the various sports offered by the school. In his selection of a college, the Doctor chose the University of Tennessee as his Alma Mater. During the first year at the University, he earned his letter in basketball and football. Doctor Gasque is not hesitant in saying that his "real” studying began upon his entering the Medical School at the University of Virginia in 1939. Following graduation, he served his in ternship at the same University. In a dual capa city, he also assisted in the teaching of anatomy. As in the case of many young doctors, the U. S. Armed Services found need for the services of Doctor Mac Roy Gasque. Serving as a Lieuten ant (j.g.) in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps, he saw duty aboard the U. S. S. Wyoming. Immediately after V-J Day, Doctor Gasque entered a year’s specialized study in Surgery as Resident Surgeon at McGuire General Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. After a year of specialized training at McGuire General, the Doctor entered general practice at Fontana Dam, N. C. Along with his general Dr. Mac Roy Gasque practice, he assumed the responsibility of Medi cal Management for three large industrial cor porations. He remained at this post until joining us here at Ecusta. Doctor Gasque married Olene Stafford of High Point in 1939. He is now the proud father of three boys. Mac Roy, Jr., age 6; Gay, age 4; and John, age 2. The family is now residing at 570 E. Main Street. In answer to a query as to his favorite hobbies. Doctor Gasque has this to say, "For the past ten years my time for a hobby has been very limited, however, I hope to get back to my occasional game of golf as soon as possible”. 8
