Even though we have experienced some Spring
weather for several months, all indications point
to our having some real Winter weather before
gardening time arrives. Remember that winter
driving is different, and that ice patches on the
roadway can really cause serious trouble. Keep
windshields clear of ice at all times, and above all,
watch out for the other car. Always remember
that tragedy can be averted through CARE.

Even though the majority of us like to indulge
moderate forms of "gambling” or "chance
taking”, we bet our lives when we stray away
from safe habits that should be followed on our
job or in the operation of a motor vehicle.
To realize that between 30 and 40 thousand
lives are being snuffed out in traffic accidents
each year, should impress each of us with the
great importance of DRIVING WITH CARE.
When we attempt to pass a car on a curve or
a hill. . . cross busy streets between intersections
—and especially when we do so with our vision
obscured . . . take foolish liberties with an ancient
and decrepit automobile . . . choose our car with
an eye to its sleek appearance only, disregarding
its mechanical condition or its safety factors . . .
depend on our 10-year-old car and our 5-year-old
tires to carry us safely at high speeds . . . think
we can make as good time in snow and sleet as
we can on a clear, dry day . . . make a target of
ourselves by not pulling off the roadway if were
stalled at night ... get impatient in heavy
traffic and pull out of line . . . suddenly turn
into our driveway without giving an adequate
hand signal . . . refuse to dim our lights just be
cause the other fellow is blinding us with his . . .
and when we blind ourselves with windshield
stickers, fox tails, and other useless gadgets, we
