STRIKES, SPARES, SPLITS AND MISSES OF OUR ECUSTA BOWLERS AND TEAMS Interdepartmental League: As of February l6th, the Champagne Cardinals were leading the League three games ahead of the second place Finishing team. The Champagne Cubs were in third place, one game behind the Finishers, and two games ahead of the Maintenances Eagles. With only two weeks of League competition re maining, these four teams will probably be the top four winners of the League, although their positions are subject to change depending on the outcome of the two final matches. In next month’s issue of THE ECHO we will publish the final statistics on the winning teams and individuals of the League for the 1948 and 1949 season. Ecusta and Enka Departmental teams to meet: A series of bowling matches between our Ecusta and the Enka departmental bowling teams has been arranged, with the first matches scheduled to be rolled off Thursday, February 24th, Other matches will be bowled on Thursday, March 3rd, and Thursday, March 10th. The twelve teams from each league will com pete, with four teams from each league meeting on each of these dates. Pairings were made ac cording to the team averages in each league. All the matches will be bowled on the Brevard bowling alleys. Much fun and fellowship were enjoyed in a similar series last year and we look forward to even greater fun, fellowship, and bowling this year. The Maintenance Eagles won second place honors with a team set total of 2888 pins in cluding handicaps. The Finishing bowling team took third place h^onors, only one pin short of the Eagles’ total, with a 2887 pin total. Our Ecusta WNC team tied the Public Service team of Asheville for the fifth place honors with a total of 2876 pins each. The Asheville Sporting Goods Store team won first place in the team events with a team set total of 2910 pins. Individual honors for tournament performance go to Joe Lavell, Bruce Reynolds and Walter Straus. Joe placed fifth in the All Events with a grand total of 1869 pins. Bruce and Walter placed 8th in the doubles event with a com bined set total of 1210. Bruce had 570 pins and Walter 566 pins. Annual Interdepartmental Bowling Tourna ment dates set: Our annual Ecusta Interdepart mental Bowling League Tournament will get under way Monday, March I4th, with the team events scheduled to be rolled on this date and Wednesday, March I6th. The Doubles and Singles events are scheduled for Wednesdays, March 23rd and 30th. WNC League Championship unpredictable: The WNC Bowling league is experiencing one of its closest races ever this season and with four weeks to go it looks like a fight to the finish. Our Ecusta team, although five games be hind the League leading Enka team on February 13th, will be trying hard to move up the ladder in these last few weeks of play.
