All that stands be tween you and FATE, are those precious eyes. They are not fixtures... they are not guaran teed to be with you from the cradle to the grave — guard them even more than you would the most precious stones you could possibly possess. Here at Ecusta, our eye injuries have been far too numerous during the past eight years. We say "Far too numerous'’ because the ma jority of the more serious eye injuries resulted from the employees not using their protective equipment. Experience has shown that the serious eye injuries occurred while employees were doing work that ivas hazardous to their vision, and that they ivere not wearing their safety goggles at the time. Just recently, an employee came to our Medical Department with a small particle of metal embedded in his eye. He was using a hammer and steel chisel to cut metal from a drum when this injury occurred, and was not luearing his goggles. Fortunately, the metal was removed from his eye without any trouble. In less than 24 hours, this same em ployee was doing the exact type of work as tuhen injured the day before, and mind you, resting on top of his cap in stead of being over those precious eyes. Remember: Total blindness can result from eye injuries.
