That is what greet ed many fishermen when they endeavored to cast their flies this past weekend. They either got cold feet or came back early, empty handed. Martha Sellers has a new hobby since she recently acquired a camera, which she calls her "Shadow.” With it, Martha intends to capture and preserve the beauty of Western North Caro lina in color. Dr. E. O. Bryant has been elected President of the Western North Carolina Engineers Club. Congratulations Doctor. C. L. Dickson’s wife’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Yerton of Concord, and her brother, Luth er, paid the Dicksons a recent visit. Charles Norlander and Larry Dixon took their vacations last week in the hopes of good weath er so they could plant grass and plow their gardens, respectively. After much rain, etc. they finally succeeded. The Technical Department welcomes Dorothy Burns, who has taken Dot Sams place as Mr. Schur’s secretary. Ed Hill is building a new home in Arden. And Betty Brown is sporting a new green Plymouth. A beautiful lake full of cool, refreshing water! That is what Julia Morgan will enjoy this Sum mer when she tries out her motor boat. We’ll leave you with this delightful thought. INSPECTION NEWS By Kenenth McDaris We have several new men in Inspection— Welcome boys! We hope you like us. Joe Nor man, John Sprouse, and Bly Rogers have trans ferred from Pulp Mill Control; Preston McCrary from the Cleaner Crew; and Cecil Morrison from the Refining Room Lab. (Preston and Cecil are former inspectors). Robert King has transferred from Pulp Mill Control to the Refining Room Lab. We have a new girl in the office. She is Carolyn Ashworth, formerly of the Research De partment. Harry Buckner is the proud owner of a new buick. Coleman Scott and Helen Fullbright have purchased Ford Sedans, and Lynn Pressley has a new Deluxe refrigerator. Mr. and Mrs. Van Huggins have moved to their farm, which they recently bought, near Silica. Randall Langford served on the jury at the last term of the court in Brevard. Charlie Orr has 300 baby chicks—hope he has good luck with them. Paul Ledbetter has purchased a regist ered Bluetick hound from Vick Sigmon. The Control baseball team has the first game of the season Monday, May 2nd. Ray Rigdon is the new addition to the team. Ray Byrd, Tom Bryson and Robert Jennings took advantage of the opening of the trout sea son by going to the Auger Hole on an extended fishing trip. At this writing we don’t know what luck they had. Vick Sigmon and Robert Jennings are each raising 5,000 trout. They will use them to stock the streams in the county. Mr. and Mrs. Rastus Smith went to the "Grand Ole Opry” at Nashville, Tenn, on their last five days off. Among those sick this month were: Clarence Glover, Jake Hollis, Jasper Nix, Jim Griffin, and Odell Gray. Pamela, young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Wells, had a tonsillectomy. Edward Brotherton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brotherton, also underwent a tonsillectomy. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hutchins’ children, Judy and Carroll, are among the many children who have had measels recently. Tom, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCall, has had the flu. Those taking vacations this month include: Tom Brotherton, Joyce Sen telle, Jim Griffin, Ivan Galloway, James Middleton, Lee Reid, Ralph Brown, Jack Hogsed, D. L. Thorne, Juanita Thorne, Hubert Batson, Tom Bryson, Blanche Jones, Jake Hollis, George Love, Helen Fullbright, and Ray Byrd. 23
