EASTER
Several hundred persons braved the below
freezing weather to attend the Easter Sunrise
Service at beautiful Camp Transylvania.
Dr. A. W. Greenlaw, professor of Bible at
Furman University, delivered the sermon, which
was broadcast over Radio Station WWNC.
A selection of Easter music was rendered by
the Ecusta Girl’s Chorus, and the Ecusta Band,
under the direction of Harold T. Casterton, play
ed chorales.
Chorales are songs of musical worship. They
differ from Hymns in that they are constructed
in units or phrases, usually sung or played in one
breath, with a slight pause between each unit or
phrase. Sometimes they are done antiphonically,
meaning one group singing or playing one phase
and another group answers with the next phase.
Chorales are done in four part harmony, both
vocally and instrumentally.
Some of the finest arrangements, of Chorales,
for bands have been done by Mr. B. J. Pfohl, of
Winston-Salem. Mr. Pfohl was in charge of all of
the Moravian Bands in Winston-Salem for more
than 50 years. His arrangements were used by
the Ecusta Band at the Service.
