FINISHING — SHIFT A By Betty Ann Orr Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sitton announce the birth of a son on May 17th at Transylvania Community Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Summey are the proud par ents of little Katherine Marie born May 18th. Mrs. Summey is a former employee of our de partment. Little Marcia Lynn went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell King on May 24th. Mrs. King was the former Geraldine Redmond of our depart ment. Glad to have Lucy Cooper back to work after having had her tonsils removed. We wish Homer Orr, who is absent from work due to illness, a speedy recovery and hope he’ll soon be back to work. Sorry to hear that Harry Sitton’s Mother is sick and hope she will soon recover. She underwent an operation at Winston-Salem. Ada and Jack Rudisill enjoyed a nice week end in Memphis, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Verda Masters spent a nice vacation in Wil mington visiting her mother, while Margaret Shook enjoyed vacationing at Fontana. Others enjoying vacations this month were; Jessie Galloway, Billie Blankenship, Ada Rey nolds, Lucy Cooper, Ray Rigdon, Marvin Garren, and Alton Ashworth. Frances Hill recently celebrated her birthday, and much to her surprise, received an electric hot water heater. She doesn’t mind being a year older when she gets presents like that. We extend our deepest sympathy to Aileen Bryson on the death of her grandmother; to Frank Collins on the death of his father; and to Jud Plott on the death of his wife. MACHINE BOOKLET — AUTOBOUND NEWS By Sara Loftis These warm days put one in a vacation mood. Buck Albert and Tulen Israel took the week of May 30th. Guy Mull and Edna Carter took the week of June 6th. The week of June 13th will find Maymie Reynolds, Edith Wright, and Vernon Reese taking their vacations. Starting June 20th, Laura Pharr, Lucille Dock- ens, Margaret Smith, Carolyn Garren, and Thelma Snyder plan to spend a week at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Sammie Hensley is planning a trip the last of this month to Washington, D. C. Irene Staton and Gladys Wilson spent two weeks at Austin, Texas. We’ve been hearing some tall fish tales lately. L. C. Wilson and John Smith went to Glenville Lake and caught 39 fish. Carolyn Garren, Margaret Smith, and Jewell Wilson also went to Glenville ENDLESS SCOOP By Edna Mae McCrary Mr. Goepfert just continues to receive beauti ful flowers even though he isn’t in the hospital now. We are glad that Jo McConnell is able to be back at work after an illness of two weeks, dur ing which time she stayed at the home of her brother in Sylva. Ruth Williams and husband. Jack, enjoyed a glorious vacation at Daytona Beach and visited other points of interest in Florida. Pearl McCall, accompanied by Mildred and Harold Owen, made a tour of Kentucky and Tennessee during their vacation recently. Upon their return, Mildred and Harold moved from their apartment on Maple Street to North Bre vard. There seems to be no better time to catch up on a few little odd jobs than vacation time. Realiz ing this, Sophia Jones over did it a bit and used most of her time painting. Says she is glad to get it done, however. As you would guess, Lavonne and Ray Israel chose the lakeside where fishing could be en joyed. A week at Chattooga Lake was wonder ful. One look at Amanda Powell tells us she has spent some time soaking up a portion of that good ole sunshine. The outdoor life is great if it doesn’t result in a good case of poison ivy. At least Beatrice Fen wick thinks so. Nevertheless, she enjoyed a week of rest and outdoor tramping around. Nellie Shirley spent a week visiting her sister in Franklin—and just taking life easy was good while it lasted. At time of this writing, Edna Batson and Vio let Patterson and children are vacationing at Daytona Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Valry Carter and daughter, Rheuma attended the graduation exercises at Clemson Col lege, Sunday, June 6th. Mrs. Carter’s brother, Lewis Townsend, received a degree in Civil En gineering. on Sunday. Jewell caught 23. Has everybody heard about Jessie Gillespie’s catfish weighing 2V2 pounds caught at Cascade Lake? We welcome Vernon Reese back from Fine Paper where he has been working lately. Martha Harris has had a severe case of poison oak. A memorial service was held at Camp Sapphire and was attended by several Champagne employ ees. Those from Champagne who lost their lives in World War II were: Christie P. Constan- 2a, F. Gordon Fowler, Hairman M. Merrell, Theodore Schepkowski, Marvin P. Smith, and C. Richard Hedge. 28
