Medical Department' Will Follow A Definite Schedule Until the present tinae, the activities of the Medical department have followed an irregular schedule. Service has been rendered more or less on a first-come, first-served basis. The volume of work has now reached a point where, if maximum service is to be rendered, it is desirable to follow a definite schedule. The following schedule of activities will be posted in the Medical department. Changes will be made from time to time, as necessary, or de sirable. 9:00 A. M. to 10:00 A. M.—Special examina tions, return-to-work, etc., Special clinics (Persons concerned will be notified). 10:00 A. M. to 12:00 Noon—General office hours for all routine business of the Medical de partment. 2:00 P. M. to 5:00 P. M.—Office hours for routine business and office hours with Dr. Gasque by appointment. Of course, the Medical department will continue to be open 24 hours daily to care for accidents. emergencies, illnesses, etc. that occur while em ployees are at work. Many employees have been coming in recently to discuss problems of health, nutrition, dental care, etc. that exist in their families. The staff of the Medical department is delighted to func tion in this capacity and all employees are en couraged to come in and discuss both their own health problems and those of their families. During the first week of August, Miss Mary Alice Tinsley and Miss Marjorie Willson will be in Chapel Hill, North Carolina attending a post graduate course dealing with problems of indus trial health. An oxygen tent has recently been acquired by the Medical department. This equipment will or dinarily be used in the Medical department, but if it is needed in the home of any employee then it will gladly be loaned. Arrangements for bor rowing this oxygen inhalation equipment can be made through the Medical department. This ap paratus is operated electrically through ordinary home electric outlets. YOU AND OLD-AGE AND SURVIVORS INSURANCE What do you know about Social Security? What will you receive when you become 65, retire, and file your application? What would your survivors receive in the event of your death? These and many other questions cannot be answered by many workers covered by the Social Security Act. For 10 years. The Ecusta Paper Corporation, as your employer, has been taking a penny out of every dollar of your earnings up to $3,000 a year, and paying a like amount in order that you or your survivors may receive benefits from this program. Social Security is not unlike any other insurance offering retirement or survivors payments. When we pay for private insurance we usually know exactly what we are paying for and what we may expect in return for our payments. However few people know just how or to what extent the regular social security deductions will benefit them or their families. Retirement benefits are determined from your earnings in employment covered by the Social Security Act (generally, jobs in commerce and industry). Your average monthly wage which is figured from your record of earnings maintained by the Social Security Administration is the basis of determining the amount of your benefit or your survivors, when you reach 65 or when you die. Your retirement benefit is figured by adding up all wages (up to $3,000 per year) paid you on jobs covered by the Act from Jan 1, 1937 until the calendar quarter in which you become 65. Di vide this total wage figure by the number of months in that same period and you have your average monthly wage. For further information contact the Asheville Office of the Social Security Administration. 14
