Believe it or not, there have been times right
here at Ecusta when an employee felt that his
hand was as large as the one shown above. The
loss of fingers and hands have resulted from in
juries not being treated at the time they occur,
and we wish to urge you to get immediate treat
ment for even the minor injuries. Remember that
PROMPT CARE WILL MAKE INFECTION
RARE.
THE "HANDS" HAVE IT!
Yes, give your hands a tremendous amount of
credit for the leading role they play in your life.
Among all the mechanical marvels of this age,
you won’t find a more wonderful or useful pair
of tools.
Five fingers fanning out from a palm —
knuckles, joints, a smooth pivot-action from the
wrist, and that’s about it. There isn’t much to
describing a hand, but just try to replace one. A
minor injury to one finger and your world is
topsy-turvy. You fumble everything that comes
into your grasp—buttons, knife and fork, pencil,
tools. One finger "laid up’’ and your whole
hand might as well be, for its usefulness is seri
ously decreased.
About one out of every four injuries here at
Ecusta is to a hand. Your hands are in possible
danger at almost any job in the plant, so give them
safe clearance with anything you handle . . . pro
tect them from sharp edges . . . never make re
pairs or adjust machinery when it is in motion
. . . use brushes or any other finger substitutes
whenever you can . . . and always use the protec
tion offered by machine guards.
That "life-line” on your palm may not actually
have anything to do with the length of your life,
but you can take it for granted that your palm
