Sunny skies greeted the huge throng at the
dedication ceremonies for the new home of the
Hedrick-Rhodes Post of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, in Hendersonville, on July 30th. Preceeding
the dedication, one of the most colorful parades
ever seen in this area, marched from the Hender
son County Courthouse to the new building in
Edwards Park.
The Ecusta Band led the long parade and played
at various times during the program. The parade
was composed of members of the Hendersonville
VFW, the Brevard American Legion and VFW,
veterans of other Western North Carolina towns,
and dignitaries who participated in the program.
Regional, State and National officers of the
VFW joined with Congressman Monroe M Red
den and James E. Van Zandt in praising the
Hendersonville Post on the completion of one of
the best veteran’s clubhouses in North Carolina,
and upon the fine work that the veterans have
done. Rep. Van Zandt of the 2nd Pennsylvania
District, who is past National Commander of the
organization, delivered the principal address,
stating that the fighting men who compose the
VFW are the nation’s most ardent champions of
preparedness.
