o FINISHING DEPARTMENT The Finishing Department transforms the master roils into narrow reels or bobbins by a continuous slitting and inspection method. The width of each bobbin is equal to the circumfer ence of a cigarette plus the overlap for adhesive. Each master roll weighs approximately 900 pounds, and 1000 rolls can be stored in the depart ment for instant transfer to the slitting machines. Tweny-three slitters in this department can handle 160,000 pounds of paper daily, making 20,000 bobbins. Each 6000 meter bobbin contains enough paper for approximately 85,000 cigarettes. The final inspection is made as the bobbins are being slit. The bobbins are labeled, and then packed into corrugated cartons for shipment to domestic cus tomers. For export shipments, a band is placed on each bobbin, showing that the paper was manu factured in the United States of America. These export bobbins are also placed into corrugated cartons. The cartons are placed into water-proof, steel-strapped veneer containers which insures de livery in perfect condition. 32
