Athletic Director and Sports Reporter for the Echo (left) The Athletic Department supervises the various sports at the plant and at Camp Sapphire. The annual coaching school offers free instructions in many sports to hundreds of boys between 7 and 14 years of age. Among the other sports di rected by this department are departmental bowl ing and baseball, teams in the Western North Carolina Industrial Bowling and Baseball leagues, and ping pong tournaments. 92
