Many Ecusta and WNC football fans enjoyed seeing two crack Midget football teams, the Bre vard Midgets and the Pisgah Forest Midgets, from Transylvania County display their wares this season. The Brevard Midgets in their second season of play finished with a commendable record of four wins, one loss and two ties, for seven games played. The Pisgah Forest Midgets making their debut among the Midget football teams of Western North Carolina, made a very good showing for their first season’s play, despite their record of five losses and one tie, for six games played. The Brevard Midgets were so popular last sea son that the size of the squad doubled from twenty-five boys to fifty this year. The sudden growth of the squad brought forth the need for more uniforms. This fact was presented to Mr. Harry H. Straus, who provided the equipment for the team last year; in turn, he donated enough funds to fully equip the new members of the squad. The Pisgah Forest team was also made possible through the generous donation of funds by Mr. Straus to outfit this team. Although the Green Midgets of Pisgah Forest failed to make the win column they played very good football under the able leadership of Hank Newbury, our Ecusta Safety Director. Hank was assisted by Ed Edwards of Pisgah Forest. The Brevard team was coached by Charlie Rus sell and Tybo Morris. Slim Bullock acted as Busi ness Manager. The coaches and assistant coaches of these teams are to be commended for the fine work they have done. We feel sure that through their efforts and hard work will come future stars.
