LET US GIVE THANKS Thanksgiving Day is strictly an American idea. No other nation in the world celebrates it. The first Thanksgiving must have been a wonderful day in the memory of the colonist. Its tradition has been handed down to us from previous gene rations, and it is the most observed of our national holidays. Let us give thanks that we are able today to live in a free land, carved out of a wilder ness by the toil and struggle of our heroic ancestors. We can apply the Thanksgiving spirit to Ecusta too. A recent visitor, prominent in industry, had the following comments to make after going through the mill: "The mammoth operation of making cigarette paper from flax fibres is too much for me to grasp in one trip, but what I did grasp and what impressed me most was the pleasant working conditions. 'Ecusta is located amid the most beautiful surroundings that I have ever seen for an industry—clear streams, beautiful mountains, the green valley, forest-cover ed hillsides, and plenty of clean, fresh air. I was amazed at the comfor table working conditions and cleanliness inside the plant. Every conceivable machine or piece of equipment to keep physical exertion at a minimum and to make the jobs easier are readily at hand. I was also impressed with the friendliness and cheerfulness of the people as we walked through the mill. The interest that is taken in the safety, welfare and happiness of each em ployee is apparent.” These were the comments made by one of many visitors. We who en joy these conditions and privileges every day, perhaps become so accus tomed to them that we lose sight of the advantages which we have that are not enjoyed in many other industries. Let us this Thanksgiving reflect for a moment and give thanks for the opportunity to share in this good fortune.
